Capsule Endoscopy
Capsule Endoscopy
Dr Wegman and The Sydney Clinic for Gastrointestinal Diseases are proud to announce, we are the first Clinic in New South Wales to be offering the service of capsule endoscopy.. This service is on site, allowing easy access, and with no need for further onward referral. In addition to the traditional endoscopic services listed, the introduction of the Given® Diagnostic Imaging System™ also known as “capsule or pill endoscopy” will enhance yield and accuracy of diagnosis in difficult small bowel disorders.
The Capsule Endoscopy procedure begins when the patient ingests the capsule containing a small digital camera. Images and data are acquired via an array of sensors secured to the abdomen as the capsule passes naturally through the small intestine. These images are transmitted to DataRecorder™ being worn by the patient. This data is later processed on the RAPID™ Workstation, on which the Gastroenterologist reviews and reports on the images. This may be appropriate for assessment of patients with GIT bleeding, difficult or complicated coeliac disease or inflammatory bowel disease involving the small bowel.
The Sydney Clinic for Gastrointestinal Diseases is now offering this service to its patients.
